wow. I get like NOOOO reception in Wyoming. sorry to everyone who is riveted and can barely funtion from nlog post to blog post. I will do some post for the past two days or so but for now here is a quick picture from today. Devil's Tower!!!!
Here we go, traveling on the road once again. This will be my second road trip this season. The first being my trip a few months back down into the deep south to the city of Naw'lens (New Orleans). This time my destination is the old west. The states I will be in are South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska. I actually made this same trip 3 summers ago as an incoming freshman ready to take my first college class. on this trip we only take one class which is like an intro to geology. Now why might you ask, are you taking this class again if you had already done it? Well my fine friend, this year as an incoming senior I am accompanying as a TA (Teachers Assistant). I am not taking the class, I am helping teach it!(can you tell I'm excited? cause I am!!)
So today was our first day traveling it was a 13 hour. I think I was 13 hours, car ride to get here. He left our college in Illinois this morning at 6:30 a.m. And then proceeded to drive, and drive, and drive some more until we finally got to our lunch destination around 11:30. After that we drove until we got to the Missouri River. we had a short lecture there, The first fields lecture for this group (yayyyy!) The view from the rest stop is gorgeous (pictures will be up later). I remember it from the first time I took this trip 3 years ago. We finally rolled into our final destination in South Dakota at 7:30. Where is that exactly, you ask? The Badlands!!! One of the most memorable stops (for me at least). It was right before twilight as we approched so the Sun was just starting to set. That is the perfect time to see the Badlands. The view on it's own is remarkable and beautiful. (for all of those who haven't been, I reconmend you go!) the jagged unconforming silhouette of the layered tan and redish rocks paired with the blues, pinks, yellows and oranges in the sky makes for a breath taking view. It's a very magical time to view the Badlands, especially if it's for the first time. |
